...So, uh, hi guys. Been a while. That said, we come with some good news:

within: some important information )
[personal profile] powersthatbe
Welcome to the Activity Check for Synodiporia!
For the remainder of the game’s run, players are only required to submit activity if they want to claim skills, or if they hold a plot role in the final jaunt.

To gain a skill, you must turn in
A total of thirty comments in two or more comment threads.
For jaunt skills, at least one of these should mention the character’s interest in or practice of the skill in question (this is not required for Liminal, Psychic Network, Hybrid, or Combo skills). Psychic Network Skills are listed here, Liminal Skills are listed here, Hybrid Skills are listed here, Favor Skills are listed here, and Combo Skills are listed here.

To gain additional skills, you must turn in
A total of forty-five comments in three or more comment threads.
From now to the end of the final jaunt, players may claim another skill for every fifteen comments past the initial 30 (i.e. 45, 60, 75, so on).
We are also not enforcing the previous requirement for character-taught skills. Go nuts!

As above, the thread proof should mention the character’s interest in or practice of the skill in question (though this is not required for Liminal, Psychic Network, Hybrid, or Combo skills). Psychic Network Skills are listed here, Liminal Skills are listed here, Hybrid Skills are listed here, Favor Skills are listed here, and Combo Skills are listed here. For more information on Skill AC, see here.
As we enter endgame, thread proofs dated from the October 2019 Liminal Salon and onward may be used in any AC submission, regardless of how far back the thread is.

All of your comments must have been made in the current AC period, but the thread itself could have been started at any time in the last sixty days. At least one thread submitted for activity needs to have been started within the current activity period.

Backtagging is fine with us (and we most definitely encourage it!), but we do want you to be involved in current events! Using more than one thread within the same post is acceptable, but if you have more than thirty comments in one single thread, you still need a separate thread. If you made the initial post, it may count as one comment towards the total thread length.

To drop a skill, you must have made Skill AC for the month, and may need to meet a few other qualifications. If you're interested in cutting a skill from your character's arsenal, report it here.

If you made single or double skill activity, comment using the correct character journal under the top-level thread labeled October ● Skill AC. The AC and Skill mods will do all the rest!

Skill Activity

Tags submitted for AC tally must be posted to the comms no later than OCTOBER 31ST at 11:59 PM CST/NOVEMBER 1ST at 5:59 AM GMT. We ask players to submit their AC for tallying by NOVEMBER 5TH if possible, for the convenience of the AC mods, who begin tallying as soon as the first of the new month. Late AC submissions are accepted, provided all tags submitted for tallying were posted to the comms before the 31st; reminders will be sent to late players as needed. This month’s ACSavior report is available here.

For more information regarding the activity policies here at Synodiporia, please read through the Activity Policies page.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to leave them in the appropriate thread located here and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Let us know here if:

a) You need an NPC'd Spirit Companion or Volksgeist for a thread; or

b) A question or information request has gone unanswered for more than 24 hours.
[personal profile] powersthatbe
When last we left our intrepid heroes, they’d ventured into Backstage to try to implant an inoculation against viral dreams, but were halted by distrustful Volksgeist Spirit Companions who feared the unforeseen damage they might do. On Aratta Skyhook, people began coming together in protest of the totalitarian behaviors of the local Orthopraxic Council, but the Council had not yet mended their ways.

It’s been a rough week for many of us, for a variety of reasons, and some of the threads and plots have been stalled without resolution to indicate to the mod team what we need to write next. That’s not anything anyone’s doing wrong - but we want to be sure to write a mingle people won’t bounce off of. Matt’s initial notes for this mingle felt, frankly, too much like railroading the plot, and that’s not how any of us want the last mingle to go.

So: here we have a plotting post without any certain, pre-determined prompts. The situations Backstage and in Aratta are still unfolding, still at a crisis point.

What we’d like in the plotting post below is for each player to state one thing they want to try this week, and one question about the situation they still have. These can be solo notions or group collaborations. As plotting goes up over the next 24 hours, we’ll work these ongoing efforts and questions into our prompts, as many as we can without creating a text-wall players might bounce off of, and we’ll provide each player who comments with at least a partial answer or clue to their question, so that the threads in this mingle will involve characters putting pieces together and pooling efforts in their threads, rather than having to wait on mod schedules and brains to provide exposition.

Then, tomorrow, early on the 18th, we’ll post the final Jaunt mingle, and we can bring the threads together and find out how, exactly, the Travelers and Dreamers are going to save the day.

If any of this feels too misty or open-ended and you’re not sure where to go with this, please let us know that, too, so we can find a different approach to cracking this mingle and bringing the Jaunt to a successful and collaborative conclusion.

One additional question: who would be interested in playing a wild Volksgeist or someone else's Spirit Companion this week? There's a whole category of privileged information we can give to anyone threading as a Spirit Companion that we can't hand out otherwise.

Last Week, in Harmonic Resonance…
After the fall of Mount Widdershins, Dreamers and Travelers began any number of clever of subversive plans, many of which have already begun to bear fruit.

This Week, in Harmonic Resonance

I. Twilight Time
Questing Country re-arranges itself in anticipation of a new paradigm, and Travelers spend some time wandering blindly in the mist.

II. The Cave of Idols
Unexpectedly re-united, Travelers and Dreamers find a shared obstacle in their path: a cave in which you come face to face with your own illusions and preconceptions… but at least you’ll have company.

III. Shacklebreaker
Get ready to break stuff.

IV. Have You Tried Turning Your Conductors Off and Back On Again?
A Role changes. The results are unexpected.

V. The Waking World
Social upheaval continues in Aratta Skyhook. Things are getting both messy and alarming.

VI. Backstage
Travelers and Dreamers questing Backstage to inoculate all dreaming against Conductive meme-weapons are confronted by Spirit Companions who would like to see their backstage passes.

Last Week, In Harmonic Resonance...

As more people became Conductors, Travelers faced their own worst nightmares, crawling out of Liminal Space. A journey to Aratta Skyhook in the Waking World discovered ominous connections. And Grant was assigned baby-sitters.

This Week, In Harmonic Resonance...

Ia & Ib.
Cards on the Table. Travelers, Conductors, and other Dreamers meet at Hushabye Meadow to share all the information that’s been uncovered in the last week, and to discuss next steps. There will be one toplevel on the mingle for just dropping exposition, for those who want to read and catch up, and a second toplevel for group discussion.
II.
Opening The Way. Collaborating, Travelers and Dreamers manage to open a stable portal to Aratta Skyhook, enabling any who wish to investigate the Waking World side of things to do so. But fitting in on Aratta may not be easy… contact the mods here for any information or further prompts needed for this investigation.
III.
The Fall of Mount Widdershins. One of Questing Country’s floating islands falls out of the sky - an almost unprecedented ‘natural disaster.’ Dreamers and Travelers struggle with the dream-magic and work to understand and clean up after the calamity.
IV.
Quests. Several different Quests have been mounted, both last week and this week, including a Quest to find Shacklebreaker. Groups of Dreamers Questing together can plan here, and contact the mods here for any information or further prompts they need.
V.
Wild Card. This is the halfway point of the last Jaunt. If you have a creative, off-the-wall idea for tricks, shortcuts, longshots, or other curveballs, plot it here, and contact the mods here for any information or further prompts they need.
[personal profile] powersthatbe
This past week has raised a lot of questions, some of which have answers. Most of them, however, do not.

Next week: Matters around Grant’s SOS message delivery will be resolved. A Quest will be declared to dig into the origins of the Conductors. Travelers’ accumulated Nightmares will come out to play (except for eldritch/Harrogate nonsense), allowing the Conductors to show off their coordination in battle. Protecting Questing Country’s most vulnerable area will present its own challenges.

There are many plotting comments below to aid and abet in coordinating all of this stuff.
[personal profile] powersthatare
Feed all your attempts to poke at this jaunt's deeper plot here, please! This includes Oracular questions regarding what their archetypes may tell them about things.

Questing Country: Harmonic Resonance
the final Jaunt of lucky round 16 of Synodiporia
September 1st - October 10th

In Questing Country, for thousands of years - but not forever - the collective unconsciousnesses of more than half a dozen species have been meeting as friends and allies. Under the guidance of Spirit Companions, young Dreamers are empowered to take up Roles and Archetypes in the long fight against nightmares, keeping the Waking World safe from their worst fears and desires. Of course, the sophisticated adults of all species almost never believe there’s such a thing as a world of dreams - in a universe with space travel, who believes in magic?

For the Chosen Dreamers of Questing Country, it’s been three months since the end of the cross-time meeting called the Ouroboros Retrograde. In the Starquake Era, the quakes have nearly stopped creating dangerous Transformed Lands, and the Transformed Lands have nearly stopped turning Dreamers into Harbingers. One gate, the Opaline Bore, has been left mysteriously open to permit Timewalkers from the past to visit.

The Oracles have been concerned with two problems, these last three months. The first issue: Human and Gorgon nightmares have both been getting stronger. Human nightmares were expected to grow worse; as humans spread out across the cosmos and discover its size, they discover new unknowns to fear. It’s happened to every starfaring race. But the increase is sudden, and stronger than expected - and no one has the least notion why Gorgons are experiencing the same thing.

The other problem is the Arcana. Spirit Companions have been warning that, while the damage the Arcana did on their last visit has been healed, they are afraid what might happen if the Arcana return. And anything a Spirit Companion fears is almost a nightmare in its own right…

But the Oracles have hope to share. Questing Country is always changing, and there are three new changes that promise assistance.

First, the Hecatites have perfected INVLEP, also called “Envelope,” a program which, when installed in Synthetics, allows them to emulate dreaming. New Synthetic Dreamers have already begun entering Questing Country and being Chosen.

Second, there are now Diabolin dreamers. In fact, there have now been Diabolin dreamers for centuries - a tiny minority of Diabolin have both a genetic mutation and a neurological syndrome which lets them fall unconscious. These periods of unconsciousness are more like comas than restful sleep, but they allow these rare few Diabolin to dream. This is a change in the timeline. While Champions may protest that they’ve had Diabolin friends for years, Oracles and Spirit Companions insist that this is a change in the timeline since the Ouroboros - and a good one. Diabolin understand nightmares - they experience waking hallucinations constantly - and so they’re very unfazed by things which terrify other species.

Third, for two months now, some Dreamers, through means unknown, have become Conductors. This is a new Role - possibly what Harbingers were always meant to be, Dreamers empowered by the unknowable Starmovers. Conductors are almost immune to negative emotion, and each possesses a bident, a weapon that can pin nightmares in place before they flee. All of them have healing powers among their magic. What’s more, they form one single Bond group, and within that Bond group, they can send telepathic messages. Their arrival - though so far very few Adversaries, Champions, or Oracles have become Conductors - is maybe the most hopeful change.

They have the calm of the Synthetics, the fearlessness of Diabolin, the telepathy of the Travelers, and the power to defeat the new Human and Gorgon nightmares. As always, Questing Country draws from the dreams and desires of its Dreamers to give the Waking World a fighting chance.

All that could go wrong now, the Oracles say, is if the Arcana returned before they were ready to face that trouble as well...

Our apologies for basically disappearing; Pandemic Brain was Real, and we didn't want to commit to running things that we weren't ready to see through to the end.

That said: We are ready to see this through to the end.

If y'all are still on board to play out one last jaunt and close Synodiporia out properly, we have a Liminal mingle and jaunt info ready to post in the next couple of days (we're presently shooting for Monday), with the jaunt set to play out in September and October. The info is sufficiently prepared that if one of us experiences total Brain Fail, the others should be able to pick up the slack.

Thank you all for your extraordinary patience, and for being awesome.
[personal profile] powersthatbe
Our apologies for the delay and thanks for your continued patience.

Questing Country won both the IC and OOC votes! We'll get the info to you as soon as we're able.
[personal profile] powersthatbe
With many, many apologies for the delay in getting this going, we’re ready to bring you The Final Jaunt Vote. Below you will find four jaunt options, as indicated in the last Liminal mingle.

In addition to the usual rank-by-preference vote, we are including questions about jaunt length and the IC jaunt vote featured in the mingle. We can either run a shorter jaunt, getting us closer to our re-re-scheduled endgame date, or write something a bit longer, giving the plot a little more room to breathe and hitting endgame in late July/early August.

As for the IC jaunt vote mechanism, there are two things to remember: 1) Each character gets one vote, no matter how many you play (and it doesn’t have to match your OOC preference), and 2) Travelers do not ICly know any details about the jaunts other than vague settings (the Grid, Questing Country, somewhere in space, something with animals).

ON TO THE PITCHES.
pitches! )
Jaunt votes will be weighted as usual, but with an additional point tier to account for the increased number of choices - three points for first choice, two for second, one for third.
el poll )
Voting will close Tuesday, June 9th, at midnight CST. Thank you all for your extraordinary patience, and we’ll see you then with the results.
[personal profile] powersthatare
The imminently-launching Liminal mingle will include an open prompt for exploration of literally any aspect of Liminal Space you can think of that is not covered by the rest of the mingle. If you'd like to have one of your characters prod at Liminal Space's innermost workings, comment here with a link to your toplevel, and we'll let you know what you've discovered.

I. Fighting Illuminants

II. Source Destruction
As for taking the Illuminants down at their sources, that’ll be a several-pronged affair by necessity:

*Red’s cave contains a dragon whose flame ignores elemental resistance and can inspire rage.
*Orange’s dragon scale would require tracking Orange themself down first, and that is pretty unlikely.
*Yellow’s golden lake needs both the water evaporated and the gold melted down, and both of those things are capable of inflicting jealousy effects on whoever’s dealing with them.
*Green’s tree has elemental creatures defending it, but should otherwise be fairly simple. The same is true of Blue’s frozen lake.
*Indigo’s library resists magical attacks, and can summon magical constructs to fight back. This is also a prime opportunity to raid some books.
*Violet’s source is twofold, as Violet draws both from the throne of Dolorosa and the royal family line. PLEASE NOTE, when planning who will deal with this source, whether the individuals or group intend to attack the queen directly (which will mean having to fight Griffon Knights) or leave her be (which may allow for Violet’s survival).
