Jaunt Week 3 Summary & Jaunt Week 4 Plotting

SUMMARY

The time for hyperlight travel comes rather sooner than anyone expected, but with the sudden loss of communications from Gehenna, there’s no other choice. Hyperlight means an end to the hallucinatory troubles that have been plaguing the Synthetics and cyborgs… but it brings its own problems.

Matic comes back online, now merged (not… quite successfully) with Elphaba’s outrider; he and the Messengers have a little adjusting to do. (He doesn’t exactly make new friends, either.) Istas performs carnage on the hapless apple monsters in Liminal Space, revealing them to be full of brass stars held together with duct tape. Kyan is hit hard by the apparent total loss of the one place he’s ever been able to call home, crappy though it was. Jules is doing his best to dismiss the sensor intrusions from other people’s cybernetics as Just Another Hallucination.

While Eren is far from the only one to notice that these portals to Liminal Space seem to be open to everyone, he is the one who raises the alarm on the network, especially since infiltrators who use them are still infiltrators. Jade entertains the idea of stashing infiltrators and Travelers alike in Liminal Space to help take the load off the ships, but no one’s sure how feasible that’s going to be. Liara recommends against unnecessary use of liminal skills, in case that just destabilises the portal situation further.

As for the portals leading from one ship to the other, Bela’s not best pleased with the resulting interlopers. It seems interlopers in general aren't welcomed anywhere though, despite Shuu's best efforts to sneak into the reactor room of the Empress.

Will nothing settle down, or are our intrepid Travelers doomed for more shenanigans? Yes

PLOTTING

Please let us know what your characters are doing to fix the developing problems on the ships in the comments below! As always, questions are welcome.

Re: Summary

[personal profile] morbirdinterest 2016-02-11 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Shuu has discovered that there are eight dead bodies in the Empress of Moths's reactor and has shared this information over the network.

He also used a skill that informed him that the Liminal Portals that appeared on the ships are "extra-system access loci," something he also shared in the above post.

Questions

Ask 'em!

[personal profile] comebewe 2016-02-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Would there be any difference in the hallucinations when looking out onto space / i.e. from the perspective of one of the outriders? (come to think of it, will any hallucinations appear in space, period?)

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-02-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)

They still appear the same on the Outriders, but not out in space.

[personal profile] amadine 2016-02-11 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Are the Corona and the Empress still in communication? Would it be at all obvious that the Empress has dropped from light speed either way?

How severe is the strain and speed drop off on the Corona? Enough that, say, it be noticeably close to the physical stress of one ship hauling another?

ETA: Are the portals still springing up, or has that stopped?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-02-11 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes and yes.

And yes.

[personal profile] amadine 2016-02-12 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it possible to determine via sensor logs, system diagnostics, etc. just what's making the Corona tow the Empress?

What's the fastest the ships could reasonably be expected to get up to speed again, given the current rate of deceleration?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-02-12 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It appears the entanglement drive has, well, entangled something aboard the Empress, and is tethered to it, which was not obvious while they were moving at similar velocities.

Barring further portal incidents or malfunctions, 3-4 days.
amadine: (Default)

[personal profile] amadine 2016-02-12 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Just double-checking time ratios here, but that gives approximately 3 IC days from the time the problems start to get things fixed and still have a reasonable shot at getting back to speed, right?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-02-12 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes.

amadine: (Default)

[personal profile] amadine 2016-02-12 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it possible to disentangle from the Empress while the drive is engaged?

Or, for that matter, to disentangle by shutting down the drive, then cycling it back up again? (Is rebooting the drive at all a reasonable undertaking at speed, actually, or is that something that anyone with a modicum of familiarity with the tech would realize will kill us all? It seems like something to try to me, but I've admittedly never actually travelled at hyperlight speeds.)

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-02-12 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)

Hypothetically, rebooting the drive would work, although it would take 3-4 days to get back up to speed that way, too. And only hypothetically - there's no way to predict what the drive will entangle, and if it's based on proximity, at deep space, even separated by millions upon millions of miles, the Empress might be the nearest source.

But there's no way to know if it's based on proximity.

What's the maximum population of the Empress and the Corona, and approximately how many people are on each ship currently?

Re: Questions

They're at close to maximum - about 300 total people (yay NPCs).

The same sort of hallucination, but not the same, precise images.

How are we going to get out of this mess?

Suggestions and scheming below.

I have nothing in particular in mind for Nikias or Claud, other than assuming they made it back to the Empress at some point. ANYONE WANT TO DO SHENANIGANS
comebewe: PB: Alex Price (Default)

[personal profile] comebewe 2016-02-11 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so Matic/The Messengers are now essentially going to be a hallucinating spaceship. Which, as you can imagine, will not be any good, and may mean that being on the Messengers is potentially dangerous atm. So, does anyone want to plan anything there? (particularly those people who are part of Elphaba's crew)

For Istas, I kinda have no clue. In fact I'd be up for any suggestions on what to do with her here, since she's really not at all useful in the 'figuring out what to do' department.
tailforbrains: (Default)

[personal profile] tailforbrains 2016-02-11 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I wish Ridic weren't needed on the bridge to pilot again, or he'd be berating Matic to ASK when things seem weird, not just react! :P Alas.

Istas and Zoe should hang out, tho. Or at least meet. I can't offer much useful for her to do tho, sadly, just maybe talking about impending babies and/or plans to help that neither of them will be much use for carrying out...
comebewe: PB: Alex Price (Default)

[personal profile] comebewe 2016-02-11 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
We could possibly organise some long-distance communication? And matic does indeed know that hallucinations have happened, so come to think of it him hallucinating now isnt as dangerous as it would have been if hed just woken up.

So yeah, there may be some frantic 'ridic is that actually there?!!' calls XD

Impending babies could be an interesting topic to discuss with istas! So i guess maybe theyll just...chat while all the chaos is happening, hah

[personal profile] itsananimalthing 2016-02-11 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, please do that :D Long distance calls are good! I got his top-level up, so feel free to hit it whenever, if you wanna :B

:: goes to do Zoe's next :: so you can hit that shortly, too...
comebewe: PB: Alex Price (Default)

[personal profile] comebewe 2016-02-11 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! I can't tag in just yet, and ill also need to know if as a ship he'll see anything different out in space first - but i shall definitely hit them up!
chalicejoker: (Joker3)

[personal profile] chalicejoker 2016-02-11 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
So Hajime is not very useful here, and he knows it--so he's going to try to make himself useful and pray he finds some bit of space technology that just so happens to look like a motorcycle engine. He knows motorcycle engines! He could fix that! He will also continue to try to stop Istas from rampaging too badly and dealing with his spirit animal pretending to be his tiny bug son.

And if the hallucinations are back...Jules is going to continue being a basket case and questioning everything. (Best sensor officer ever.) Have fun with that, people of the Empress.
tailforbrains: (Default)

[personal profile] tailforbrains 2016-02-11 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hajime the bug monster should meet Ridic the alien demon at some point. Just for the sake of the weirdness.

But on the whole, Ridic will be annoyed at Jules again, but glad he's questioning! Good diabolin! I swear, he's gonna be the only halfway sane one on the bridge :|

If you want, I got Zoe jury-rigging last month, so she could help Hajime find something else to fix if he's on Corona.
chalicejoker: (Satisfied)

[personal profile] chalicejoker 2016-02-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
YES we should totally have that happen! Nothing could go wrong.

He probably is, not having cybernetics certainly helps.

Jury-rigging wouldn't be a bad thing for him to get, if you want to have her run into him while he's trying so hard to fix things.

Admittedly, I will be away from now until Sunday because of a convention, but JUST IN CASE...

Zatanna will still be slightly reeling from having received a new ability during a previous mingle (the one that turns her into a 19-year-old, specifically), on top of the fact that she's still hesitant to use her magic for anything more than the small trick here and there because of personal plot stuff.

Aside from that, she's basically going around looking for portals while trying to keep people she doesn't think are Investigators from noticing said portals, so that they don't end up in Liminal. Knowing her, it's...probably not going very well.

Otherwise, I'm open to any plotting if people want her around for any CR!
tailforbrains: (Default)

[personal profile] tailforbrains 2016-02-11 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Riddick is back to his job piloting the Empress, now, to try and fight that pull to... wherever they're going. That'll be fun. He won't be around much again unless you're on the bridge and/or would like to visit him there. I'll have a top-level for him for sure.

Zoe is back on the Corona and will be helping out however a very pregnant woman who's only just learning how to fix ships can. She may disappear into liminal space to create any impossible-to-work-around parts, if that winds up being a thing, which could get her into trouble? I dunno >.> She spent last mingle basically prowling liminal space and trying to corral infiltrators who wound up there, which may not have won her many friends.

I'm still kinda slow this week, almost as bad as I was last week. I'm hoping it's RL stresses, which should slow down after this weekend, so I can get back to proper posting speed v.v

Jey will be juryrigging repairs anywhere people will let her on the Empress. Also places no one has actually let her but also no one has stopped her.

Wash will be on the Corona also using his much less extensive repair skills. ANd fetching things for Zoe like a good husband. And possibly trying to keep Infiltrators from wandering into Liminal through such classic techniques as "Look! A monkey!"
virioncomplex: (fuck you fucking fuck!)

[personal profile] virioncomplex 2016-02-11 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Faed is going to have found his armor back in Liminal Space by this time so he's going to primarily be running around in that. It makes him look larger than he is and his voice will be normal volume and robotic sounding. He'll likely be running around with all four arms so connections can be made that it's him, especially if anyone has seen him with Wotto.

The suit will have some sensor malfunctions due to the hallucination issue, so there can definitely be shenanigans until he realizes what's going on. He is going to try and continue to FIX ALL THE THINGS, though portal related malfunctions are a new concept completely.

If he finds out what's going on aboard the Empress he will definitely try to get everyone to try and shut down then reroute the plasma conduit around the portal in some true BugGyver fashion.

Gale on the other hand does not have the technical knowhow to be of much use in trying to repair anything, but he is going to keep running around trying to help/rescue anyone who needs it, as well as try to keep an eye on his comrades. If need be, he will use his powers and/or transform into his demon self to save people, considering this is a giant catastrophe about to happen he's not going to see any point in hiding that anymore.

He's already seen one world destroyed along with it's people, if he can keep these people alive he's going to damn well try.

Lapis has created a new robot for mechanical shenanigans: YT-A19. He's available for anyone to use who's working on the ship. Don't worry. He won't decide on his own to do full ship-altering procedures.

Otherwise, Lapis herself is going to be around and trying to help as much as she can, and is available to be pulled into things if needed.
lunchleader: (hey; what is that?)

[personal profile] lunchleader 2016-02-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So, Hikaru (aka, Right) is just a lost little Conditioned person who's just poking his nose anywhere and everywhere. While he's not good with much of the mechanical stuff, he's always willing to learn and help patch things up as needed.

That said, though, being Conditioned means that he's much more aware of things than he'll let on, and if anyone starts any fights, he'll be more than willing to help break them up - especially if someone's trying to throttle a (seemingly) defenseless person. No fighting each other until we've reached a safe port, guys!

...though I may just toss a coin to see as to which ship he ended up on, if the portals actually close when both ships fell out of hyperlight.
morbirdinterest: (> chemists do it periodically)

[personal profile] morbirdinterest 2016-02-11 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm feeling pretty behind on things at the moment, so I don't have any big plans. That being said, I'm always open to plotting something! But for now:

Rosalie/A-Lie will be freaking out about the hallucinations being back and/or glued to the sensor console helping keep the Corona going as much as she can. Or at least she'll stay as glued to the sensors as she's allowed to be...

Shuu will be hiding out in the Empress doing his medic thing.

Kyan's going to be trying to navigate a ship as well as he can while the ship's, you know, not going anywhere in a hurry. So this will likely involve both time on the bridge and time working on the storm data elsewhere.

The stress is kind of getting to him, though, among other things that aren't doing his head any good. He might get a bit lost and drift across between ships, but most of his time'll be on the Empress.
sombercomedienne: (what the mirthless hell was that)

[personal profile] sombercomedienne 2016-02-12 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Lydain's been hanging around not doing much for most of the past week except for getting some (about to be threaded and backdated) basic but still totally unnecessary cybernetic implants courtesy of Shuu. Because she's not ok with being out of the loop on all of the interesting hallucinations sensory input.

So now she's getting back up to speed just in time to get in on the next round of hallucinations! Won't that be fun! She's still on the Empress. Plus the cybernetic-related hallucinations are on top of her diabolin-related tenuous grasp on reality - she's increasingly unsure that outrunning the Tachyon Storm is even something they should be trying to do, because Time Triad Cultist reasons.

So Eren can't do a whole lot, but he's not the type to just sit around and wait for everything to collapse around him either, so he's going to be running around the Empress helping people out wherever he can. Feel free to have your character run into him or vice versa. And possibly literally for comedic effect if you're so inclined and need a break from doom and despair everywhere.

Oh, and yes, he's still got his Audiocaudal Syndrome activated, so he's got a canine's ears/tail/teeth/some fur. And yes, for those that missed it and were wondering this is a Spaceballs reference and I regret nothing.

Jade will be feeling useless but responsible, so someone should probably distract her so that others can work. Or find a problem that can be solved by interpersonal skills and/or threats.
