Opened!

"Two mirrored-glass hexagons hide behind the airlock. In the center of each is a chest-high series of tubes with similar fluted controls and multi-colored glass lenses forming an armillary sphere of some sort atop them. The floor is mirrored as well, but criss-crossed with winding snake trails of soot.

In the star-shaped chamber beyond, beveled surfaces of dark glass create ledges - seats? tables? stairs for giants up along the slanted walls? Perhaps beds for creatures with no standards of comfort.

Here and there, scattered across the thirty or so darkened surfaces, small items sit. Some have an obvious function - holographic image projectors, although they seem to contain no computer and no light source, without which they cannot project. One golden and stained-glass shape, like a flattened top, has interlocking glass clockwork visible within, still turning slowly. A glass axe-blade with a blood groove and a handgrip on the back, a narrow, translucent spindle, and a slender star-shape around a perforated toroidal shape in black are harder to decipher. The trails of soot are here, too, and the only areas without them have blue glass bells with circular silver handgrips sitting somewhere in them."

"A pentagonal room on the far side of the glass-geared airlocks of the southern doorway. Deep grooves run along the walls and floor, changing directions every so often, creating an almost dizzying crosshatched moire pattern. Here and there, screens of straw-thin metal tubing extend from the walls at varying distances, making the room into a sort of half-hearted hedge-maze."

Currently closed, apparently there's no way to open it from within the main chamber, but it can be broken open by .8 gigapascals of pressure.

...right. The surface: "Synthetic... unless it's some sort of very dense fungus or lichen. Unlike everything else here, it's actively a little cool to the touch... and it doesn't really look like it's meant to be manipulated. It must have some other purpose, something to do with its geometry or alignment, maybe... which would mean whatever it's meant to interact with is pretty big."

So what plugs into the altars, then?
